Providing LGBTQ+ affirming health care // Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry
The Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry supports the New York State Office of Mental Health’s mission to promote the availability of evidence-based practices. We worked with CPI and Modern Epic to create a one-hour online learning module for clinicians focused on providing LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare.
The Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry wanted to create an asynchronous online module for clincial providers that would help them build their understanding of LGBTQ+ affirming health care. Their priorities included providing clear, actionable guidance; designing for interactivity; presenting authentic scenarios; reflecting the diversity of the community; and addressing the felt needs of learners. NL&D collaborated with Columbia psychiatry faculty, the team at ModernEpic, and learning developers to:
Facilitate the discovery process with Columbia psychiatry faculty,
Distill content to clear, compelling direct instruction and dramatization scripts,
Collaborate with e-learning developers to propose interactive templates best suited to supporting key learning activities, and
Generate engaging and authentic branching scenarios that provide learners with the opportunity to practice applying new knowledge and skills.
